A Life on Facebook

When researching for the dissertation (procrastinating) in the Library, you come across a few brilliant pieces of viral – This is one of them.

One man’s life lived out, all through Facebook.

Strut Your 4D’s – Ralph Lauren

Ralph Lauren attracted and wowed crowds on Wednesday night in both London & New York with some stunning 4D Mapping to celebrate the 10th anniversary of it’s US e-commerce site and the launch of the UK.

Given the tagline -‘The ultimate collision of fashion, art and technology’ advanced architectural video mapping technology was projected onto the firm’s flagship locations on Madison Avenue and Bond Street to give a visual seven-minute journey through the world of Ralph Lauren…

Jumpers For Goalposts

Along with the majority of blokes across the country, I can’t wait for the new Premier League season to start, not only to completely wipe out the World Cup performances, but also as a Spurs fan I can’t wait to hear the Champions league anthem played at the lane for the first ever time (They do play them even in the qualifiers, right?).

With Sky Sports building the anticipation for the new season as always by running endless ‘Premier League Years’ they have also done as they always do, and produced a great little advert just to wet the appetite further.

Including Classic Kamara, Helen Chamberlain, Jamie Redknapp & of course Sir Geoff Stelling, I think it’s a great little piece of work & see below for the extended version.

Football or…………Something Else?

Well, any marketing campaign bringing together two of the best things in life, Beer & Football will grab my attention, but this campaign by Heineken is one of genuine genius.

With a huge Champions league match against Real Madrid on the horizon, those sneaky chaps at Heineken hired accomplices including Girlfriends, Company bosses & Journalists who would put their boyfriend, or employees respectively  in a doomed situation in which that would see them not be able to watch the football with friends but instead have to attend a special staged classical music concert instead, you crafty sods.

Receiving coverage all over Italy, including live interviews on Sky Sports Italia, this really was the perfect marketing/PR stunt and Brand Activation…

Hypnotic Brass & A Dead Dog.

As I slowly pick my way through the festivals I’ve been lucky enough to dance my face of at this summer & pull apart who I saw, I’ll be throwing up some of the highlights as & when they come back to me.

First up, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble a 9-piece, Chicago-based brass group featuring 8 sons of Phil Cohran (Applause to him, for dishing out 9 talented portions like this!)

Originally from Chicago, the brothers started as a street ensemble before hitting the studio in 2004. They have performed with  Mos Def,  Phil Cohran, The Recipe,  as well as recording alongside Erykah Badu and Maxwell.

More recently they have supported Blur for their Hyde Park reunion concerts in July 2009 as well as collaborating and performing with The Gorilliaz on a number of tracks off of the third studio album, Plastic Beach (which is where I was first drawn to their talent).

They’ve got a wicked sound and if they have not already, I wouldn’t be surprised to see some of the English Grime/Hip-Hop stars getting something going with these talented boys.

‘The Jools Holland Show’

‘War’

Secondly, one of my favourite bands of the moment who were brought to my attention when they supported The Ruskins at the Camden Barfly. Dog is Dead are a 5 piece band from Nottingham who describe their music as ‘Louis Armstrong lost in disco’ and that’s just brilliant.

They received rave reviews for their performance of ‘The Glockenspiel Song on the BBC Introducing stage at Glastonbury this summer & rightly so….

Kenny Powers – Official K-Swiss Spokesperson

For anyone who has not seen the fantastic HBO series, Eastbound & Down, they are majorly missing out on Danny Mcbride (Hot Rod, Pineapple Express, Superbad)  in his absolute element. Kenny Powers is a  former professional baseball pitcher, who after an up and down career in the major leagues is forced to return to his hometown middle-school in as a substitute physical education teacher….

The show is executively produced by the legendary Will Ferrell & Adam Mckay, with Ferrell guest starring as the BMW dealer Ashley Shaeffer….

In a great little maketing ploy by the team at K-Swiss they have signed up Kenny Powers to be face of the brand & appear alongside NFL stars. The current  commericals would appear to have had an instant viral effect over Facebook & Twitter..

We Speak No Americano

A days worth of blogging wouldn’t be fulfilled without some music action.

Did not stop dancing to this when I heard it all over the place at Glastonbury last weekend, a very quirky song with a unique video….

Converse Domination – Branding V Search

I came across Converse’s single page websites a while back (scroll from left to right and have a good look through them) and thought they were pretty much stand out by their selves.

My favourite being  THIS AMAZING PERSON directing teenage boys about how to approach a certain type of girl.

What I didn’t know was they they were all under an umbrella campaign called Converse Domination which was just downright genius.

Converse had created a unique way of advertising, using a Google Ad Words as their branding campaign…..

Nike – The Chance

For me, Nike really get digital. As well as the outlook of youth culture on modern day football & their ‘Write The Future’ viral displayed that perfectly, receiving almost 18,000.000 views since it was posted last month (despite seemingly cursing each player that appeared in it!).

Nike have followed this up with their ‘The Chance’ campaign which adds real value, inspiration and the opportunity for young footballers to truly live their dream by being able to training like a pro with both the Nike Academy as well as those of leading English Premier League Clubs with one season to ultimately earn a pro contract.

Creating a social media based entry mechanism via Facebook, where you create a fanbase & begin the steps to grab the attention of the Nike scouts it again shows the alignment Nike have with the youth generation.

With all the negative press English footballers in particular are receiving off the back of a dismal World Cup display, it’s refreshing to see the large Brands targeting the original hunger and love for the sport that almost all boys have growing up…

What do you do?

Well, thanks to an amazing placement year, as part of my degree, with the fantastic people at Beatwax and working alongside Borkowski PR I’ve had the opportunity to interact with some great clients and work on some really great projects which I will blog about later.

However, as a result my blogging took a backseat. So, it’s time to get it back up and running with more of the things that I find interesting/fascinating/funny/cool etc from around the world so, welcome back!

This is viral by Converse featuring artist of the moment Kid Cudi. This is a really neat, simple play on what originally inspired people to do what they do…
